These are some interesting and very interactive idea for the catalogue.

We would have it so that when you open the catalogue, 2 students and their work will be place on each page.

This is a basic and simple idea that would be cheap and easy to create.

What are the needs of our stakeholders

QUT academics

Here are some unique examples of this method:

Thermochromatic Wallpaper

http://snowinateapot.blogspot.com.au/2011/09/thermochromatic-blooms.html

Thermochromatic Table

http://shulace.tumblr.com/post/11963241709/langst-with-a-thermochromatic-finish-the-table

1. Interactive paper:

Here’s an example of an interactive poster that uses touch sensors and speakers that projects sound effects. This is done with use of conductive ink which responds to the human hand and controls the poster.

http://thefutureofthings.com/pod/254/interactive-paper.html

2. Interactive paper:

Here are some examples of the interaction between paper and music.

http://www.digitalartsonline.co.uk/features/?featureid=3367637

3. Polychrome paper computing:

This is a interactive paper that is triggered when a finger in placed over the butterfly. The object changes colour when in contact with heat produced from the human finger.

http://www.siggraph.org/asia2011/emergin-technologies-detail?id=100-55&session=etech&event=200-170

4. Scientists unveil paper-thin, bending smartphone:

I believe the heading speaks for itself, This isn’t made from paper but the idea of this is interesting.

Had I realised this a lot sooner I probably would have endeavored to push through with my first idea.

So after days of stressing about grasping certain concepts, I had identified for myself a need. I decided to develop a mashup that could be used in conjunction with this unit called, KIB204 - A basic Survival Kit.

I still liked the visual design however , so I had attemtped to stick with that to an extent.

So this Concept was to draw upon multiple sources, but using a much simpler and realistic method for me at this point in time. There are four different functions of this mashup:

1) Allows the user to do a nine msn search regarding tutorials and general information on web languages.

2) Allows the user to search for tutorial videos on youtube

3) Uses feeds from bestwebgallery.com to bring the users web design inspiration.

4) Uses feeds from Colour lovers to provide the user with both the top ten and latest colour palettes created.

How Eventful's API is making me lose my hair.

I have spent all day trying to figure out how to use Eventfuls API,

Completely and utterly lost, I’m losing hair over this.

I think I have missed something rather crucial, I don’t know where to begin.

Using pipes and searching blog post content

So lately I’ve been having a bit of trouble using pipes to pull the artist name from the posts because each blog formats their posts a little differently. I also needed to sort out a way to consistently draw the genre information from each post in order for the first and foremost function (to search latest blogposts by genre).

So the best way I was able to achieve this was to customise the was Yahoo Pipes searched each blog post.
I used a compilation of different rules in the filter operator which would use the users text input to search different parts of the blog posts depending on which blog would present results. For example I used filter “item.category” when searching www.mahoganyblog.com and the users input would search “item.description” when searching www.pitchfork.com.

For those of us using el.bows

For those of us using el.bows:
Unlike the majority of this site, the “Hot Posts” source actually has it’s own RSS feed. Thus it aggregates several blogs for me, and provides more results that feedburner and feedity do.

However, sense of accomplishment aside, I think this solution has been right there all along and very obvious. How daft of me.

Photo

25 Music API's

25 Music API's:
A useful list of music API’s that may come in handy.

Giving my Mashup "Soul"

Giving my Mashup "Soul":
While browsing through the Smashing Magazine website, I found this article on giving your website or mashup a personality to improve the users experience connecting to them on another level.

Enhanced functionality through the development of web under a unified web standard means that regardless of what platform it s being viewed on the user experience will be the same.

The ability to embed and support videos without the use of 3rd party plugins.

Cleaner markup with the use of semantic html5 elements

Example - http://www.romancortes.com/blog/a-tribute-to-the-beatles/

____________________________________________________________________

2. LIVE DATA

live data nowadays is an extremely important factor in our online experience.

Bridges needs of users and technology, by retrieving real-time information from rss feeds of blogs and news sites.

The information produced is specific to a certain topic, service or product a user is interested in.

Example - http://www.wefeelfine.org/movements.html

____________________________________________________________________

3. MOBILE WEB

Portable web, access the internet from a mobile device such as mobile phones, ipads, laptops etc.

Interface must look appealing at any size

Usability must be taken into consideration when designing for mobile web. For example a sites mobile website may need to reduce unnecessary content and present the user with the information they actually wish to view and demand less text entry with forms. Infinite scrolling rather than mouse clicks may provide for a more optimal experience on an IPad.

____________________________________________________________________

4. RESPONSIVE WEB DESIGN

Responsive web design advocates that interface design should respond to both the users behaviour and viewing environment.

The method takes into account the emergence of multiple platforms and with that the requirement for a web page to support multiple resolutions.

An example of this is the use of flexible grids, layouts and clever css to respond a users preference (is he viewing it on an ipad or iphone

____________________________________________________________________

5. USER GENERATED CONTENT

Any content published by a non media professional - can take numerous forms, artwork uploaded on deviant art, a comment you’ve left on facebook.

Key characterstic of Web 2.0 and can sometimes account for the entire website as demonstrated in sites like twitter, or just a portion of it (amazon).

Example : http://www.colourlovers.com/
